History:
St Francis Xavier鈥檚 School, Montmorency, was opened in 1932 under the direction of the Mercy Order. The Mercy Sisters continued to administer the school until 1983, when a lay principal was appointed. In the early 1980s the enrolment was as high as 783 children and as a result, in 1986 a new parish school, Holy Trinity, was opened in Eltham North.

St Francis Xavier has a current enrolment of around 429 students. The school strives to build quality relationships among the students, staff, parish priest and wider community, based on respect, genuineness, acceptance, trust and hope.
The school aspires to provide a variety of learning experiences which contribute to the development of the whole person. The children learn through a curriculum that extends and develops the abilities of each child. St Francis Xavier is a school where confidence and self-esteem are respected and developed, promoting success for every child. The grounds of the school incorporate a range of settings from the quiet shady gardens and courtyard retreats to the more active adventure playgrounds, sandpit, playing courts and oval areas.
